"Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind. "
~ Patanjali, translated from Sanskrit
Hanuman

This post is taken from an interview by Katerine Pew from Yoga @ Joyful Living:  Guruji had a favorite aphorism: “Practice ,and all is coming.” It was the at the heart of his teaching. Asana is just  one-eight of the path outlined in Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutra. When asked why is asana important : Guruji’s reply “Asana is the foundation of the yoga practice, body strength plus mind strength equals yoga strength. Asana strength more important first, he laughed. Obstacles of yoga practice: Guruji refered to Yoga Shastra, which states that God resides in our hearts in the form of light, but this light is obscured by six poisons:kama(desire),krodha(anger),moha(delusion),lobha(greed),matsarya(jealousy),and mada(sloth). When we practice yoga faithfully over the course of many years, he explained, the heat it generates burns away the poisons, and our inner light shines forth. So remember, Practice, and all is coming, which includes the eight-fold path. As Guruji’s own teacher Sri Krishnamacharya said,”No one is wise by birth, for wisdom results from one’s own efforts.”                                                 Safe journeys, Namaste Larry
